Egypt claimed today that Israeli jets, dropping 1000 pound American bombs, raided the Al Salyiya area 24 miles west of the Suez Canal, killing 15 Egyptian soldiers and wounding seven. There was no confirmation from Israeli sources of the alleged attack. If Egyptian reports were correct, the raid would be the deepest penetration of Egyptian territory by Israeli planes since mid-April when Russian pilots were first reported flying Egyptian MIGs over central Egypt. Egyptian planes attacked two Israeli positions in the central section of the Suez Canal zone today but were driven off by anti-aircraft fire and inflicted no casualties, a military spokesman reported. He said Israeli jets raided Egyptian positions in the canal zone last night. An Israeli civilian was wounded in an exchange of fire with Egyptian forces across the canal today. Three Arab guerrillas were killed last night in a clash with an Israeli patrol near Hisfin in the southern Golan Heights. The guerrillas were surprised while planting road mines, a military spokesman said. They carried Kalachnikof rifles and bazookas. There were no Israeli casualties. Shells were fired from Lebanese territory during the night at Kfar Szold but caused no damage. Ashdod Yaacov and Beth Zera, south of the Sea of Galilee, were hit by Katyusha rocket fire early today from Jordanian territory. Israeli forces replied with mortar fire. The attack was the second from Jordan since last week’s fighting between Palestinian guerrillas and Jordan Army regulars.
