An overflow crowd attended the seventieth birthday anniversary dinner held here yesterday in honor of the veteran Zionist leader and head of the Jewish National Fund, Menachem Mendel Ussishkin. The size of the crowd necessitated the use of an additional banquet hall in the Hotel LaSalle where the dinner was held.

Judah Pilch, executive director of the Jewish National Fund in Chicago, announced that Chicagoans had pledged $20,000 for the purchase of land for the Kfar Ussishkin in Palestine. This is double the original quota set for Chicago. More than $5,000 of this sum has already been collected. A cable of congratulations was sent to Ussishkin in Palestine.

Rabbi Israel Goldstein, president of the American section of the Jewish National Fund, was the principal speaker at the banquet. Other speakers included Joseph Sprinzak, delegate of the Palestine Histadruth; Abraham Goldberg, member of the American Zionist executive committee; Judge Harry M. Fisher, Max Shulman, president of Mid-West Zionist region; H. Steinberg, president of the Jewish National Fund in Chicago; Mrs. Bertha Berkman, president of the Chicago Hadassah. Rabbi Saul Silber of the Mizrachi organization, and E. Avni of the Poale Zion-Zeire Zion party.
