Wendell Willkie, while in Teheran on route to Kuibyshov, received representatives of Jewish groups who gave him a memorandum on the position of the Polish-Jewish refugees in Russia, and asked him to use his influence to obtain emigration permits for them, it was disclosed here today.
Great interest has been aroused in Jewish circles here by the scheduled debate tomorrow in the Polish National Council on the question of alleged discrimination against Jewish soldiers in the Polish army in Russia. The question was put to the government last week by the Jewish deputy Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbart who requested further information on reports that Jews had been removed from Polish units leaving Russia for the Middle East. Fifteen non-Jewish deputies supported his request for an explanation. Foreign Minister Count Edward Raozynski and Minister of War Lieut. Gen. Marjan Kukiel have been designated by the Government to reply in the Council.
