A total of 176 degrees and diplomas, in course, and three honorary degrees were awarded today by Yeshiva University at its 23rd annual commencement exercises. For the first time, the Yeshiva’s Institute of Mathematics awarded four Master of Science degrees to Students and the University’s Teachers Institute for Women awarded ten diplomas.
Dr. Samuel Belkin, president of the University, awarded honorary degrees to the following: Judge Samuel Mellitz of the Superior Court of Connecticut, Doctor of Laws; Dr. Alvin C. Eurich, vice-president of the Fund for the Advancement of Education, Doctor of Humane Letters; and Rabbi Aaron D. Burack, Professor of Talmud at the University, Doctor of Divinity.
A $500, 000 gift for the University from the Gustav Wurzweiler Foundation was announced at the commencement exercises by Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, vice-president of the foundation and president of the University’s Rabbinical Alumni. The grant is to be used for the maintenance and advancement of the University’s educational programs.
