A monument to Jewish victims of Italian Fascism was erected on Rab Island, in Yugoslavia, site of a large prison camp during the war, at a ceremony attended by 12,000 inhabitants of the island, representatives of other parts of the country and relatives of victims, it was reported here today from Belgrade. Among those who participated in the cremony, sponsored by the Union of Fighters of Slovenia, were representatives of the various Jewish communities in Yugoslavia.
During the summer of 1943 the Italian occupation authorities in Slovenia set up a separate camp for Jews from various parts of Yugoslavia on Rab Island. The Slovenian liberation movement made contact with the Jewish prisoners and organized them within the camp, giving them instructions in medical corps work.
