A lest of strength between Zionist and non-Zionist leaders in England with regard to their attitude to Israel will take place at the next meeting of the Council of United Synagogues. Aaron Wright, president of the Jewish National Fund of Great Britain, announced today that he intends to re-introduce at the meeting a pro-Israel resolution which was ruled out of order at the last Council meeting by Sir Robert Waley Cohen, non-Zionist leader and president of the Council.
The executive board of the United Jewish Educational and Cultural Organization for the Europe adopted a resolution at its meeting here expressing the belief that the Jewish state will aid the cause of Jewish education and cultu7re throughout the world, and particularly in Europe. The board also expressed the hope that a representative of the Israeli Government “will become actively associated with the work of UJECO.”
Among those attending the meeting were the honorary secretaries of UJECO, William Frankel and Eugene Weill; Judah Stapiro, newly-named director of education for the J.D.C.; Joel Wolfsohn and Marvin Goldfine, of the American Jewish Committee; Rabbi Alexander Shafran, former chief rabbi of Rumania, and Rev. Joseph Halpern, newly-appointed director of UJECO.
