(JTA) — An Israeli man accused of raping a teenage girl in Pennsylvania in 2004 was extradited back to the United States from Israel.
Moshe Journo fled the United States after he was released on bond in the case, in which he is accused of raping the 15-year-old at his tanning parlor in Allegheny County, in the southwest part of the state. He was arrested by Israeli police in December 2017. It is not clear if he spent the last 15 years in Israel.
FBI agents and Allegheny County sheriff’s officers traveled to Israel last week and Journo was returned to Pennsylvania on Thursday and jailed. He was denied bail on Friday, according to reports.
Journo was charged with rape in 2006. Following the indictment, the FBI obtained an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant. Journo lost an appeal on his extradition.
