Following in the footsteps of Palestine, the Syrian government today imposed an import duty on wheat and olive oil. The action is significant in view of the fact that Palestine and Syria have a tariff reciprocity agreement. Earlier in the week Palestine boosted the tariff on wheat, barley and seminola and banned the importation of unrefined olive oil until further notice.
