Arbor Day Proclaimed As “afforestation Day” in Israel; to Be Dedicated to Heroes

Chamisha Asar B’Shvat, the first Arbor Day to be celebrated since the proclamation of Israeli statehood–which falls this year on February, 14, when the Israeli Constituent Assembly is scheduled to open–was proclaimed today as "Afforestation Day."

Members of the Israeli Army, in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund, will dedicate four new forests in memory of the Israeli troops who lost their lives in the recent fighting. Funds for this project will be raised among members of the armed forces, the civilian population and school children.
