This week’s Intelligence Squared debate on whether the U.S. should step back from its special relationship with Israel got me thinking: What changes might we see if Israel and America were no longer friends with benefits?
• Israel might resume its visits to the Gaza strip club.
• No more Israeli fooling around in the West Bank.
• No more incursions by Israel.
• The United States would stop offering its arms to Israel — — or any other body parts, for that matter.
• The United States might get into bed with the Arabs.
• No more secret late-night “peacemaking” sessions at the King David Hotel.
• There’d be a lot less Israeli stimulation of the U.S. economy.
• “Joint operations” between U.S. and Israeli troops might end – except possibly during Spring Break.
• Intimate meetings between Israel and America would give way to three-ways with the Palestinian Authority.
• The U.S. would drop Israel from its Friends and Family phone plan
