Leading Moroccan Jews presented a petition today to Gov. Oen Bouchaib, requesting the formation of a new Jewish committee to resolve “the numerous problems besetting the Jewish community.” They presented to the city’s governor a letter voicing that request, signed by the heads of 150 Jewish families. Among the signers were Salomon Ben-Sabat, counsellor of the Moroccan Supreme Court; Prof. Albert Sasson, head of the science faculty at Rabat University; and former Jewish Committee president Ben-Simon.

Some leading members of the Jewish community here contend that the present Jewish Committee, headed by Meyer Obadia, does not enjoy Jewish community confidence, claiming that Jewish cultural affairs are being neglected. There is a move under way for the replacement of Mr. Obadia by another prominent Jewish personality here, Jacob Banon.
