Early settlement of the “Jewish question” in Hungary was demanded by former premier Bela Imredy, addressing leaders of his “Hungarian Regeneration Party,” according to reports appearing in Budapest newspapers reaching here today. Imredy declared that if the Allies triumph, Hungary would be placed under “Jewish domination” and reduced to its pre-war size.
Meanwhile, Slovak fascists, in order to justify their persecution of the Jews, are charging that Jews in Slovakia are pro-Hungarian. Anton Vasek, a Hlinka Guard leader, in a speech reported in Slovak papers received here, declared that when the Nazis decided to give certain sections of Slovakia to Hungary, the Jews agitated to secure the surrender of several border towns to Hungary.
The Swedish weekly, Trots Allt, reveals today that Hungarian authorities are permitting the books of Jewish and Allied authors to circulate freely, including the works of Stefan Zweig, Sinclair Lews, George Bernard Shaw and Jack London.
