Deep concern over the situation of 10,000 Rumanian Jewish families some of whose members have been allowed to emigrate to Israel and the remainder forcibly kept in Rumania was expressed here this week-end at a meeting sponsored by leaders of Rumanian Jews in the United States.
Idov Cohen, member of the Israel Knesset and president of the Committee for Unification of Families in Israel, told the meeting how in 1950-52 the elderly parents of most of these families were allowed to leave for Israel under the belief that their children would follow. However, exit visas were later denied the younger people and the families have remained parted. Mr. Cohen described the weakening spiritual and cultural position of the 220,000 Jews in Rumania, the second largest Jewish community in Eastern Europe.
