An Israeli company plans to set up a plant in the United States to manufacture Uzi submachine guns, in an effort to sidestep a new order issued by President Clinton banning the import of such weapons. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported that the factory would be jointly run by Israel Military Industries and an American manufacturer. The report said that the Israel and U.S. firms established a relationship two years ago to jointly market of the Uzi.
