The Australian Government is concerned over the Israel Government’s decision to move its Foreign Ministry from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Australian Minister for External Affairs H. Casey said in Canberra today. He revealed that this concern had been conveyed to the Israel Government by the Australian Minister to Israel.
No country has thus far recognized Israel’s claim to Jerusalem as its capital, and the recent announcement by Israel is a move designed to compel the diplomatic corps to move to Jerusalem and thus recognized that city as the capital of the Jewish State, the Minister charged. This move will make even more difficult the solution of the problem of Jerusalem in the United Nations, he added. Mr. Casey also said Australia’s policy on Jerusalem was largely determined by a concern for the future of the Holy Places.
