A 30-man panel on BBC television rejected yesterday the Arab case in the Middle East which was presented by speakers who included Rabbi Elmer Berger, executive vice-president of the anti-Zionist American Council for Judaism. The vote against the proposition that the Arab case was stronger than the Israel case was 20 to seven with three abstentions.
The Arab position was spearheaded by Labor MP Christopher Mayhew in an hour-long debate. His witnesses were Rabbi Berger, members of an Arab refugee family, the Arab League delegate here, and former Jerusalem mayor, Rouhi el-Khatib. Jo Grimmond, a former leader of the Liberal Party, led the presentation of Israel’s case, calling on three British speakers and Moshe Pearlman, former director of the Israel Information Services as supporters.
