Jewry of this city will take steps to enable those who have no previous contact with Jewish life to attend a special course which will aid them to feel at home during services of the approaching High Holy Days.
The courses are on the following lines:
A lecture for an hour, followed by a half hour of questions and discussions explaining the Jewish calendar; the significance of Jewish festivals and their historic basis; the meaning of the Shofar blast and the various notes of the Shofar, and the liturgy, with remarks on the meaning of the daily prayers and communal service.
Particular emphasis is laid on the Sh’ma and the Eighteen Benedictions. The Rosh Hashonah Prayer Book will be taken, with the aid of a German translation.
