Czech-born film director Karel Reisz died last week at 76 of a blood disorder. Reisz fled Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia for Britain when he was 12 and was the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust. After the war, Reisz went on to direct films, including the much-acclaimed “The French Lieutenant’s Woman,” with Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons.
