Directors and curators of Holocaust memorials at German concentration camps said they opposed the idea of building a central Holocaust memorial in Berlin. The statement released Aug. 13 came amid growing opposition to the memorial by German leaders. The plan is supported by Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who is currently trailing in polls for the Sept. 27 elections.
