Rabbi Dr. Julius Fischer, one of the professors at the Franz Josef Rabbinical Seminary in Budapest, has been appointed principal in succession to the late Dr. Ludwig Blau, the great Talmudic scholar, who died last year.
Rabbi Fischer, who is 71, was born at Sarkeresztur, in Hungary. He is himself a student of the Seminary, where he has been for the past 27 years a professor and has now become the head.
After taking his doctorate of philosophy at Budapest University, Dr. Fischer was elected, in 1887, Rabbi of Gyor, and two years later he was called to Prague, returning to Budapest as professor at the Seminary in 1905.
He is president of the Hungarian Jewish Literary Society, and has himself written a number of works, including a life of Alexander Kohut.
