Dr. Hans Globke, State Secretary in the office of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, will resign October 1,”whether Dr. Adenauer is still in office or not,” Christ and Welt, a newspaper published in Stuttgart, reported today. According to the paper, Dr. Globke had tried to resign several times in the last few years, but Dr. Adenauer had refused to act on his top aide’s wish to leave his post.
Dr. Globke has constantly been accused of a pro Nazi past, but has retained Dr. Adenauers confidence. He has admitted that, during World War II, he had written the legal commentary on Hitler’s infamous anti-Semitic Nuremberg laws, but has contended he had nothing to do with drafting those laws.
