The Austrian government was today openly accused by the Association of Jewish Front Soldiers of duplicity in its attitude toward the Jewish population.
“There is quite a difference between the theory which government authorities are advancing with regard to the Jews and the way the Jews are treated in practice,” the association’s official organ, the Jewish Frontier, charges.
The paper enumerates cases of discrimination against Jews which contradict the promises made by Premier Schuschnigg and other members of the Austrian Cabinet.
“The history of Jewish martyrdom teaches us that such action is possible only with the active support or passive toleration of the authorities,” the publication concludes.
