Contributions totalling $1,074,322 have so far been received by the Palestine Emergency Fund, the headquarters of the Fund announced.
Jewish refugees numbering 8,360 are being cared for by the central relief committee in Jerusalem, until such time as the Palestine authorities can guarantee that the towns and colonies from which they fled during the Arab riots are adequately safeguarded against further outbreaks.
Col. Frederick H. Kisch informed David A. Brown, that a reconstruction committee has been set up which is functioning separately from the relief committee. One of the first projects taken up by the reconstruction committee is the provisional establishment in Jerusalem of the Hebron Yeshiva. He added that the Vaad Leumi-the Jewish National Council of Palestine-had agreed with the Emergency Fund Committee not to sanction any separate appeals for funds being made in America or elsewhere by any Palestine institution.
Mr. Brown explained that this action had been made necessary because of the large number of cables from Palestine institutions, other than those maintained by the Zionists, to the Emergency Fund Committee, for special appropriations.
