Interior Minister Nedeff, denying a foreign radio report that 6,000 Bulgarian Jews had been expelled, revealed today that expulsion orders against Jewish refugees have been temporarily suspended and that a special commission is now collecting material for regulation of the problem of foreigners.
“Not a single Jew who is a Bulgarian citizen,” General Nedeff stated, “has been forced to leave, nor will any Bulgarian Jew ever be forced to leave. The Jews in Bulgaria enjoy the same rights as other Bulgarian citizens without distinction of race or religion. The authorities, however, will enforce rigorously regulations with regard to foreigners. A special commission is now collecting material for regulation of the problem of foreigners. The Cabinet has not yet made a decision on the question. Expulsion orders against Jewish refugees have been suspended for the time being.”
