The first export shipment of fresh cabbage from Israel to the United States, valued at $90,000, was unloaded in New York today from the s. s. Zion of the Zim Lines. The initial consignment of cabbage grown on Israeli farms consists of 4,921 cases each weighing approximately 85 pounds. It was loaded aboard the Zion at Haifa on January 28.
The consignee is Sol Whiteman, Inc., of Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, reputed to be the world’s largest importer of cabbage. The first shipment, most of which has ready been purchased, will be marketed in New York, New England, Philadelphia, Washington, D. C. and Pittsburgh.
