A shift in emphasis by the Joint Distribution Committee from rebuilding Jewish health and medical services in Europe in the immediate postwar period to training doctors and medical technicians for JDC installations in the developing countries of Israel, North Africa and Iran was reflected today in new scholarship awards.
The awards to two Tunisian doctors and one Israeli doctor to study in France and England was disclosed in a report published by the medical department of the JDC. The report said the three awards brought to 137 the total of medical scholarships awarded in the 12 years of 1948 to 1960.
