Max Mazin, president of the Jewish Community of Madrid, gave a lecture on the eve of last Passover at the Dominican Monastery of Avila, where Tomas Torquemada, founder of the Grand Inquisition, lies buried, it was revealed here today in a dispatch from the Spanish capital.
Mr. Mazin had been invited by the Dominican friars in his capacity of co-chairman of the Association of Jewish-Christian Friendship, and addressed about 250 friars, priests and seminarians on the Jewish faith. He was later kept for two hours of questions. He described his visit to the monastery as a “fantastic experience,” and told newspapermen that it was “an unbelievable things” for him and for the Jews in Spain to be a guest of honor in the place where Torquemada — who burned Jews as heretics — lived, acted and was buried.
