A chapter in the history of the Jewish community of London’s East End came to a close last Friday night when the last Yiddish performance was given at the Pavillion. Theatre in Whitcchapel.
The Pavillion was the only theatre in London dedicated to Yiddish per-formances. Recently it was sold and will be remodelled into a moving picture house.
Hundreds of Whitechapel Yiddish theatre-goers assembled at the theatre and around it to mark its final per-formance. Many in the crowd expressed regret at the loss of the only Yiddish theatre in London.
