The degree of Doctor of Science was conferred upon Dr. Jacob G. Lipman, director of the New Jersey Experiment Station, by Rutgers College and the State University of New Jersey at the commencement exercises held today. Others who received honorary degrees were Secretary of the Treasury Mellon, Governor Silzer of N.J. and Edward Bok, former editor of the “Ladies’ Home Journal”.
Dr. Lipman is rated as perhaps the world’s foremost authority on soils. He is the discoverer of the bacillus vinelandii, which is employed in the extraction of nitrogen from the air. He is also a discoverer of many other agricultural processes. one of which has been notably successful in combatting potato diseases.
Dr. Lipman is a director of the Jewish Agricultural Society. He has also taken a keen interest in other phases of Jewish activities, and it is understood will visit the Palestine Jewish farm colonies this summer under the auspices of the Palestine Development Council.
