The prediction that palestine industry will soon be asked to produce commodities for export to neighboring countries was made today in a radio broadcast by the Financial Secretary of the Palestine Government, G.R. Sandford, who lauded the industrial contribution of the country to the British war effort.
Mr. Sandford revealed that Palestine’s industrial possibilities were discussed at the recent economic conference in Cairo and that plans are being prepared for their exploitation. He emphasized that sufficient raw material will be provided to guarantee fulfillment of these plans. (The influx of Jewish capital into Palestine during 1942 was estimated at $20,000,000, according to a report in “Palestine and the Middle East.” During the first three years of war, the total amount of Jewish capital brought into Palestine reached $60,000,000, the report said.)
A “peace luncheon”today, marked by the traditional slaughter of a sheep, concluded a long-standing quarrel between the Jewish settlers in Maale-Chamisha and the neighboring Arab village of Kattana, both near Jerusalem. The affair was attended by representatives of the palestine Government and by the Jewish and Arab settlers involved.
