Representatives of Jewish organizations today visited the State Department in connection with an expected anti-Jewish demonstration in San Jose, capital of Costa Rica, announced to take place on Sunday.
The demonstration has been organized by a demagogic group known as the "Costa Rican Patriotic Union." Permission for the rally has been granted by the Costa Rican authorities. The demonstration is technically in support of a proposed law for nationalization of commerce which the "Patriotic Union" is advocating. Actually, the measure and the demonstration are both directed against Jewish immigrants who have established themselves in commerce.
The "Patriotic Union" charges that Jews admitted to Costa Rica as agricultural workers turned to commerce and have gained dominant positions in it. The organization published an advertisement in the Costa Rican press denouncing Jews of Polish origin.
