The second World Conference of Christians for Palestine, a pro-Arab group, opened at the University of Kent today but only half of the expected 40 delegates are attending. A spokesman for the conference said “the rest could not get away because of the tense situation,” but according to observers many of the scheduled participants stayed away because of the Munich outrage. Clovis Maksood, an Arab writer and diplomat said in his opening address that “there is a new form of anti-Semitism, this one directed against the Arabs.”
The State Department today scoffed at a Cairo Radio report that Israel “in agreement with the United States” is readying large-scale military attacks against Syria and Lebanon.
