Professor Gothold Weil has been invited to the University of Frankfurt-am-Main to occupy the chair of Semitics.
Professor Weil, who is 49, is a noted Orientalist. Born in Berlin, he entered the Prussian government library service in that city in 1906 and in 1918 was appointed director of the Oriental department. In 1912 he became associated with the University of Berlin, and in 1920 was named honorary professor there and instructor in post-Biblical Jewish history and literature.
He is the author of many books on the grammar and literature of the Oriental languages. Professor Weil is a member of the curatorium of the Academy of Jewish Sciences and of its philological commission, as well as of the Academic Council of the Hebrew University at Jerusalem.
