Professor Jacques S. Hadamard, a leading French-Jewish mathematician and educator, has died in France at the age of 97, according to information received here today from Paris. He was the dean of the French Academy of Sciences.
Born in Versailles, Prof. Hadamard first taught at the Ecole Normale Superieure and was later professor of mathematics at the University of Paris and subsequently professor at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. He was active in Jewish life in France, and was a member of the French Palestine Committee and of the administrative beard of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
