Katyusha rockets smashed into the outskirts of Kiryat Shemona after midnight Friday. One of them severely damaged the home of 75-year-old Ezer Abu but none of the occupants was injured. The authorities did not learn of the attack until yesterday because Abu did not immediately report it. He. his wife and two elderly guests were taken in by relatives who live nearby. Other neighbors attributed the explosions to Israeli action against terrorists across the Lebanese border.
The Abu family refused to be evacuated and asked only that the municipality repair the damage to their home to which the Mayor promptly agreed. The rocket tore off the veranda and wrecked the front door. The Abus and their guests were in the living room at the time.
Israeli forces crossed into Lebanon Thursday night and Friday morning to demolish two houses in Bleida village which had been used to shelter terrorists. A military spokesman said the soldiers reached the village without incident and evacuated the houses before destroying them. The action was described as a deterrent measure to prevent local villagers from aiding or sheltering terrorists. Meanwhile, a special alert was put into effect yesterday against possible terrorist activities coinciding with Balfour Day, the 67th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.
