Pleased surprise has been occasioned here by a vigorous protest against anti-Semitism uttered by Georg Greciano, a descandant of Roumanian royalty and a son of a former Roumanian Minister to The Hague and Soviet Russia.
Greciano voices his protest against anti-Jewish hatred and his defense of the Jews in a book, written in Roumanian, which has just appeared here in a French translation.
The book is entitled “Judea.” Mr. Greciano gives his impressions of Jewish life under the Czar and condemns the tolerance shown by Russian authorities toward pogroms. He deplores that in higher society anti-Semitism is part of the confession of faith of every “well-bred” person.
In a series of chapters he vividly describes the anti-Jewish excesses which he himself witnessed in Poland, Roumania and Galicia. He concludes his book with emphasis on “the danger of tolerating certain kinds of perfidious and criminal propaganda.”
