The Torah scroll which Pinhas Sapir was carrying before his death was in a heavy encasement and had been brought over recently from Cochin, India to Moshav Nevatim whose settlers emigrated from that area. Mr. Sapir had urged Jewish Agency representatives to bring over the Torah scrolls from Cochin and refused to take a lighter scroll for the ceremony dedicating the moshav’s new synagogue. Mr. Sapir began to feel ill inside the synagogue and went out to get some fresh air. He sat down on a chair and then collapsed.
