A decision to close ten synagogues in Ukrainian cities was taken by the Ukrainian Zik, Executive Committee, according to a report of the Tass, of??ficial Soviet news agency. Synagogues in Tchernigoff, Elisavetgrad, Konotop and other cities will be closed. Michael Kalinin, in his address be-for the closing session today of the All Soviet Atheists’ Congress, de??clared: “While fighting religion, we should be especially careful in using administrative measures. We should not forget those working masses who, regrettably, are still religious. There??fore, Ave must be very elastic in our methods. The easiest thing is to des??troy religion from outside, but it is harder to root it out of the minds of the people.”
