Conference committees are still in session, working out the resolution to be presented tomorrow night at the concluding session.
In the meanwhile, the conference political committee adopted a resolution declaring that the conference had established a fact that the Constantine pogrom was not caused by race hatred but by a criminal plot. The French delegation to the conference was authorized to ask the French government to carry out a complete investigation of the pogrom and to punish all those guilty. The conference expressed complete confidence in French justice.
The conference today replied to Samuel Untermyer’s cablegram yesterday in which he asked the conference to treat the boycott as a broad moral issue affecting the whole world, not the Jews alone. The text of the reply follows:
“The conference agrees with you that the boycott is not chiefly Jewish, but is a moral and material self-defense of civilization against the Nazi forces of darkness and enslavement. We pledge ourselves together with all freedom-enjoying and justice-loving peoples and faiths, to stand by the boycott and all other lawful means against Hitlerism.
“The conference earnestly hopes the American Boycott League, the American Federation of Labor and the American Jewish Congress will continue in full cooperation.”
