The Central War Crimes Commission reported today it had opened investigations against 754 persons charged with war and Nazi crimes since its establishment two years ago.

The commission was set up to coordinate and speed up investigations into such charges. A total of 400 cases have been turned over to date to the competent local authorities for prosecution.

The commission also reported that 260 of its cases have been added to other investigations currently in progress, such as the Auschwitz death camp “complex.” The commission is working in close cooperation with Nazi documentation centers and archives in the United States, Poland and Israel.

Twenty-three judges and public prosecutors in Baden-Wurtemberg were in the meantime suspended from office pending an investigation of their activities in office under the Hitler regime.
