In order to study the situation of the refugees in the Western Hemisphere and to help extend relief and rehabilitation work there, Dr. Boris A. Surowich, well known Jewish social worker, will leave for an extended tour of a number of Central and South American countries, it was announced today by Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union.
“The Eatin-American Confederation,” Dr. Lvovitch said, “has been very active in recent years in the establishment of trade schools and cooperative workshops in various South American countries. This work is of great importance not only for the refugees, but also for the local Jews who are in need of retraining. By aiding the refugees to become useful in industry and agriculture, and to contribute to the productivity of the countries which have given them asylum, ORT also helps to open the doors of those countries to our other unfortunate brethren seeking refuge.”
Dr. Surowich returned recently from a visit to Cuba, where, with his assistance, an ORT training school for refugees was opened and a successful campaign for ORT carried out, His present tour will take him to Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Ecuador and Chile.
