A historic synagogue in the western Ukrainian town of Kolomiya was vandalized with smashed eggs Wednesday.
The synagogue, where the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Chasidic Judaism, once prayed, was formerly a prominent Jewish center. Today there are only several hundred Jews in town.
Local Jewish leaders told JTA they had no doubt the vandalism was the work of anti-Semites.
