Iran has a third more enriched uranium than thought

Iran has more enriched uranium than previously thought, United National officials said Thursday.

According to a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has almost a ton of enriched uranium — more than 460 pounds than previously reported, and enough to potentially make a nuclear missile, the New York Times reported.

Tehran had previously reported that it had created 630 kilograms of low enriched uranium, but in a new report delivered in Vienna this week, the energy agency said that Tehran now reports an additional 209 kilograms, or 460 pounds.

The report did, however, say that the miscalculation was reasonable for a new plant, the Times reported.

Others disagreed.

“It’s worse than we thought,” Gary Milhollin, director of the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, told the Times. “It’s alarming that the actual production was underreported by a third.”
