A Palestinian man who participated in the attempted lynching of an Israeli soldier in 1998 was sentenced to seven years in jail. Soldier Assaf Miara, who was off duty and riding in a private car, was attacked by dozens of Palestinians at a West Bank traffic junction in December 1998. Yussuf Abu-Kamer, a student at Bir Zeit University, pleaded guilty to the charges, which stipulated that he beat Miara with a rock until a fellow student stopped him and allowed Miara to escape.
