A U.S. Orthodox rabbi is in critical condition after being attacked with a baseball bat in Lakewood, N.J. Rabbi Mordechai Moskowitz, a 53-year-old teacher at a religious school in the Orthodox enclave of Lakewood, was attacked Tuesday evening as he was heading to synagogue, according to the Asbury Park Press. Police said Wednesday that there was no evidence the attack was a hate crime. A multiethnic board of community leaders met in Lakewood on Wednesday night to discuss the attack. “The attack is a crime against the entire community of Lakewood and not a crime against one ethnic group,” Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberm, a member of the Vaad of Lakewood, said.
