Chic Hecht, a Jewish Republican senator from Nevada in the 1980s, died Monday in Las Vegas at age 77. Hecht, who was born Mayer Jacob Hecht, won an upset victory in 1982 against Sen. Howard Cannon and served one term before losing a close re-election race in 1988.
