Measures to relax military control over Israeli Arabs were announced here yesterday following a long meeting between Premier David Ben Gurion and five Arab members of Knesset who belong to Mapai and subordinate parties.
Officially described as the “first in a series of meetings” dealing with minority problems, the talks also covered economic problems, including the question of Jewish-Arab capital investments, and youth education.
Decisions made at the meeting include the following: relaxation of restrictions governing the movement of Galilee Arabs; shortening of night our few hours for the “little triangle” of central Israel; opening the road to Tel Aviv for Arabs in the triangle; loans for Arab farmers; water and electricity supply for Arab villages; agricultural, professional and secondary education for Arab youth and the stimulation of Arab-Jewish investments in cooperative enterprises.
