The Senate Commerce Committee approved yesterday a bill banning racial and religious discrimination in places of public accommodation.

Yhr measure would cover all hotels and other places serving transient guests except owner-occupied homes with no more than five rooms for rent. The Senate committee measure is similar to one approved by the House Judiciary measure, except that the latter is more sweeping in its coverage.
