The first female Israeli air force pilot died. Yael Rom, who flew on military operations and for Israel’s civilian airline Arkia, passed away Thursday at her home in Haifa of an undisclosed condition. She was 74. Rom was best remembered for flying one of two Hercules planes that dropped Israeli troops into battle with Egyptian forces at the Mitla Pass in 1956.
