The French national railroad is on trial for its role in deporting 75,000 Jews during World War II. The lawsuit against SNCF was brought by an Austrian-born French Jew, Kurt Werner Schaechter, whose parents were killed in Sobibor and Auschwitz after being transported in French trains.
